Moments of Humanity in Morocco with Francis Boulanger

Francis Boulanger has a rare gift—the kind that doesn’t come from books or titles. It’s the ability to connect with strangers, soul to soul. With presence. With intention.
While riding his motorcycle through Morocco, he experienced a moment that etched itself into his memory.

He’d pulled off the road when he spotted a shepherd making his way up a steep hill. Below, goats wandered peacefully, unconcerned with anything beyond their next bite of grass. The two men—Francis and the shepherd—had never met. They didn’t share a common language or even exchange names.
But the shepherd looked at him, smiled, and placed a hand gently over his heart.
No words were needed.

Just that simple gesture—a smile, a handshake, a moment of shared humanity. It was more powerful than any photograph. Because the goal wasn’t to capture—it was to connect.
In a world so often driven by distraction, these moments of genuine human connection are becoming rare. But they remind us that people everywhere are quietly yearning to be seen.

Later, after stopping to throw on his raincoat, Francis was greeted by five kids who came running toward him, laughing, jumping, asking for wheelies. Francis pulled out his bag of Cheetos he just got at the petrol station and shared it with them. The moment was pure joy.

“We can’t save the whole world, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do something kind when we can. Whether it’s sharing a snack, a handshake, a smile—these things matter. They create a bond. No words needed.” Francis says.

And maybe that’s the lesson. That the most powerful perspectives don’t always come from racing ahead, but from pausing. From noticing. From the quiet magic of stillness, solitude, and sincere connection.

Moments of humanity are everywhere. We just have to slow down enough to experience them.

Thank you to the stranger on the scooter and the one with the jump leads

When our motorbike Fernando didn’t start due to an empty battery (yup, we left the lights on overnight!), we tried to jump-start it.
Two blondes, a hill and a bike with a dead battery – a recipe for success? Well, not quite.
A lovely gentleman on a scooter stopped on the way past and helped us push the bike. Nothing. Fernando was grumpy and didn’t start.
So we decided to go find a mechanic when another gentleman who saw us push the bike past his house came out with a power pack and jump leads. Ten minutes later Fernando was happily running and we continued our journey.
A perfect Moment of Humanity, two strangers taking the time to help us out. Just because they can.

This is Lina d’Amore, a talented Tuscan artist. We met Lina and her husband Fabrizio at their idyllic Bed & Breakfast in Bagni San Filippo where we stopped for the night on the way to Rome. Lina and her husband decided to move to this beautiful Tuscan village after visiting the natural thermal pools over a decade ago.
Besides running the Bed & Breakfast and spoiling their guests with the most delicious breakfast, Lina has a gallery in Roma where she features her art and Fabrizio works as an electrician in a nearby village.
Thank you Lina & Fabrizio, we absolutely loved your hospitality and are still talking about the amazing breakfast that awaited us after a swim in the natural pools.

This is Daniela, Antonio, Giorgio & Sabrina from Sperlonga, Italy. Antonio & Giorgio have been friends since childhood.

They have welcomed us with open arms and open hearts.
Daniela & Sabrina made sure our fridge is filled with our favourite items and showed us around their beautiful home town.
Antonio opened his restaurant just for us and cooked up a storm.
Giorgio cleaned our motorbikes and checked the oil and tyre pressure while we were still sleeping.
This family has shown us more moments of humanity than they will ever know. I feel very touched.

Mel and Sim are on a mission to spread happiness, smiles and great coffee at one of the most remote places of this planet.

The couple started their barrista-careers on top of a beautiful lock-out in the coastal town called Eaglehawk Neck overlooking Pirates Bay in Tasmania.
They told us that one of the reasons to leave the corporate world behind and to start their business was to really connect with people and to never be without great coffee.
Caring about the environment is similarly important to the duo.

They love to sing too. You might even be able to book them for your next wedding.
Mel gave us one of her home-made famous chocolate cookies as a freebie. All sourced from local ingredients, with chocolate from the nearby chocolate factory.
Can you smell or taste the deliciousness of her love-baking with us?
Mel and Sim warm your hearts no matter how cold the outside temperature might get.
Watch this space. Their next artisan, crafty, creative project might already be in the making
